Linda Metcalf
Biography
Linda Metcalf was born in Buffalo, NY. As a child growing up in Buffalo she showed an aptitude for creating and so began her developing interest in art. In her teen years she took several art courses at Buffalo State College. After graduation Linda settled into a career as a dental laboratory technician where sculpting in wax satisfied her hunger for creativity. Linda married her husband and moved to Greece and later to Fairport in the suburbs of Rochester, NY. While living in Fairport she sold small works to a local art gallery.
After moving back to Eggertsville, a suburb of Buffalo, Linda and her husband moved to beautiful Wyoming County. Linda went to a local college to take more art courses. Working as the curator of the local museum, she designed and remodeled display areas. It was at this time she was requested to be the guest speaker for a Co-operative county workshop, speaking on display design.
In effort to return to her dental laboratory roots, Linda went to Erie County Community College in Orchard Park, NY and received an Associate's Degree in Dental Laboratory Technology. After graduation, Linda continued on to receive her certification in dental technology and opened her own dental laboratory.
Linda's interest in watercolors drew her to study with Susan Webb Tregay, Margaret M. Martin, and Linda Lucas, as well as studying independently.
Linda primarily works have been in watercolors and oils. Presently she is placing most of her emphasis on wax encaustics. This seems a natural fit for someone who has sculpted in wax for so many years.
